Entirely surrounded by walls for almost a thousand years, Le Clos des Bachelards has the same surface area as Romanée Conti, i.e. 1 hectare and 80 ares, and produces an exceptional wine. Its terroir is in a class of its own. The other adjoining plots do not produce the same grapes. The terroir is made up of pink granite and decomposed feldspar with marl and blue clay, which gives it its originality and is found nowhere else in the region. All this is enhanced by certified organic and biodynamic viticulture, which preserves its incomparable naturalness.

Fleurie Le Clos 2020

The Château des Bachelards vineyard was created by the Benedictine monks of Cluny around 1100. Today, it extends over 12 hectares, all of which are farmed organically and biodynamically, in keeping with the monastic heritage. The absence of chemicals in the soil for the last 15 years and the use of biodynamic practices allow the terroirs to express themselves fully in the wines of Les Bachelards. The very old Gamay vines, the indigenous grape variety and the only red grape variety grown at Château des Bachelards, thrive wonderfully on our acidic, more or less weathered granite soils.

RECOGNITION :

  • Stuart Pigott for James Suckling: 98/100 "A giant of elegance, energy and finesse, this single-vineyard Fleurie is one of the wines of the vintage in Beaujolais. The concentration is staggering on the tight, medium to full-bodied palate, which is extraordinarily fresh and precise for the very warm vintage. The aromas are just beginning to open up, but we can already detect notes of red rose, pomegranate and clove. Then the wet stone minerality washes over you in one big wave on the stunning finish.
  • BEST TOP 100 FRENCH WINES LIST (Jamessuckling.com) : Clos des Bachelards 2020 is on the list of the top 100 French wines, and we're very proud of it. It is the only Fleurie wine on this list.
