Founded around 1100 by the Benedictine monks of Cluny, Château des Bachelards is an exceptional wine estate located in Fleurie, in the north of the Beaujolais region. Covering 12 hectares, including 6 in a single block around the château in the Fleurie AOC, the estate also includes plots in Beaujolais Villages, Saint-Amour and Moulin-à-Vent.
Chemical-free since 2007, the Château is certified organic (FR- BIO-15) and biodynamic (Demeter and Biodyvin). A pioneer of biodynamic viticulture in the region, the estate pays constant attention to respecting its terroir and the ecosystems in its vineyards.
When it comes to naturalness and biodynamic viticulture, Bachelards ticks all the boxes. Gamay, our king of granitic soils, is one of the few indigenous grape varieties in France. Less than 10% of the grape varieties planted in France are indigenous. Our wines have a unique identity.
Over the centuries, monks have created Burgundy's vineyards by identifying the best terroirs and designing vineyards around them.
The old vines of Clos des Bachelards, protected by a historic wall almost 1000 years old, are cherished with meticulous care, like a garden. This unique terroir, sometimes referred to as the "Romanée Conti of Beaujolais", produces wines of great elegance, acclaimed for their finesse and complexity by the greatest international critics. The wines of Château des Bachelards, vinified and matured over a long period of time, are now among the most remarkable in the region, acclaimed for their quality and timeless style.
